Robbie

Robbie was a beautiful collie rough (just like Lassie). We used to watch Lassie movies together, for my sake of course, to compare the behavior of the breed. Well, he was Lassie personified.

He came to me one afternoon after being dumped, roaming the streets. He was slightly emaciated, although difficult to see under all that hair, and blind in one eye. He stood outside my home, and I chatted with him for a while. The next morning he was still there.

I asked him if he would like to go for a walk with me and my little terrier, Honey. He said 'Yes please' with a smile, and he never left my side. On arrival home I didn't know what to do with him as I had to go to work. He looked at me with sorrow in his eyes, and that was it.

I took him inside, fed and watered him and went off to work, not expecting to see him again. However, there he was when I got home, waiting outside my back door. I invited him in and there he stayed for the rest of his beautiful life.

Robbie was the darling of the neighbourhood, and an absolute favourite at the vet surgery, local shops, department store, and beauty parlour. I don't know why he came into my life - yes I do, I needed him at that particular time in my life.

Robbie taught me how to see things differently by just being himself. He taught me how to accept what was and move on, unconditional love, and to see the beauty in life around us. How did he teach me these things? Well that was the way he lived, he lived with love joy every day. This included everybody he met.

My angel passed away going on 3 years ago now, from cancer. I was with him when the vet put him to sleep. It was so peaceful. I had him cremated and have his ashes in my lounge room with a small fountain to commemorate the beauty he brought into my life.

I call on him when I walk my other dogs and feel him by my side, trotting along with me.
